Southeast Scottish
Specialists

We’ve been going up and down the A1 for more time than we like to remember, although we’re not quite as old as the road itself – it opened in 1921! – but almost. We’ve supplied 28 new sash windows for fine Edinburgh houses from the very old to the uber-modern and in properties, in towns and villages around the city. Memorable projects include a sash window installation for a niche shop in the Royal Mile and a tiny, odd-shaped window for a seaside cottage in Gullane. No job is too complicated, challenging, large or small for our team of expert designers.

Sash Windows
Projects Edinburgh

  • Name: Daniel Benton – Daygood Architects
  • Location: Edinburgh
  • Cost: £22,000
  • Project Details: We were commissioned by an architectural practice to design new sash windows for a historic restoration project intended to be part retail and part residential. Everything about this was challenging, from sourcing suitable materials to perfecting a sympathetic but workable design. However, the result is spectacular, with a fabulous design aesthetic and excellent light gains and thermal regulation.

  • Name: Isabelle Wright
  • Location: North Berwick
  • Cost: £10,000
  • Project Details: Isabelle runs a seaside bed and breakfast with fabulous views, so she opted for a complete window renovation and swapped out old uPVC units for timber sash window replacements. This involved opening up the original window apertures, which had been reduced in size, but thermal regulation was just as crucial as design as the house faces the sea and can really catch a cold in the winter months. The result is just what Isabel wanted, period windows which take the property back to its Georgian origins but with 21st-century thermal regulation and even bigger and better views than she had before.

Happy Sash Window
Customers in Edinburgh

Alec Aitken

I bought a three-storey townhouse near the University to rent some of it to students and live in the rest, but I certainly bit off more than I could chew regarding the renovation. I was aiming to restore but also modernise, and William Richards did an excellent job of advising me on how to refurbish some of the windows, which were salvageable and replace the rest with nivonix.work. The result is period authenticity, lower heating bills, great interiors with lots of light, and a crisp contemporary look. I must have been one of their most irritating customers, always on the phone! But they were incredibly accommodating and very patient.

Anna Goodley

I was helping my parents refurbish a new house they had bought, in fact, an old house which needed quite a lot of work done to suit their living requirements but also because it was in a bit of a sorry state. nivonix.work were spot on with their advice and the new sash windows are very stylish, authentically period, low maintenance and keep the interiors super warm. I couldn't be more pleased.

Sash Windows
Edinburgh FAQs

  • What type of wood do you use for new sliding sash windows?

We use a range of timber that comes from managed sources or is Forest Stewardship (FSC) certified. Sustainability and quality are the twin drivers behind all our wood choices for new joinery. We work with durable hardwoods, including Accoya. If you want to discuss specific types of timber for your home or project, then we are to do this.

  • Which is better, repair or replacement?

A lot depends upon the condition of the existing windows. Repair is cheaper in the short term but may not offer a good long-term solution if the window is in poor condition and could end up being a waste of money. Our team will discuss all the options with you including what works best for your budget.

  • Will I receive a FENSA certificate for my new sash windows?

If you choose to install new sliding sash windows, then you’ll receive a FENSA certificate from the installation company. However, if you fit new sash windows into existing frames, you won’t require a FENSA certificate for this work.
